High school teacher stabbed by learner

The learner allegedly stole a sum of money from the teacher and an altercation ensued when he confronted the child.

PARADISE – A teacher of a local high school in Paradise area was stabbed by a Grade 12 pupil on Wednesday, November 23.

According to sources, the incident took place on the school premises at around 2pm.

The learner allegedly stole a sum of money from the teacher and an altercation ensued when he confronted the child.

It is unclear where the boy obtained the weapon. The teacher sustained a stab wound to the right side of his chest and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The extent of his injuries are unknown at this stage, however, he is currently recovering at his home.

Police officials were on the scene to take statements from the victim and child.

The child was arrested and later released.

It is unknown whether an official charge was laid against the child.

“The matter is currently under police investigation,” said the school principal.

It was confirmed the incident had been reported to the Department of Education and further investigations in the matter would be conducted.
