Diabetes awareness for senior citizens

The only way to be sure about this and get treated is to have a blood glucose test at a clinic, hospital or your family doctor

The Estcourt Senior Citizens Club recently commemorated World Diabetes Day (November 14) where they were encouraged to get tested for diabetes.

World Diabetes Day is the primary global awareness campaign focusing on diabetes. Many people have diabetes without being aware.

The only way to be sure about this and get treated is to have a blood glucose test at a clinic, hospital or your family doctor.
When Ramika Peerbhay asked the elderly how often they checked for diabetes, they responded: ‘once every six months’.

Diabetes needs to be tested for once every two weeks or at least once a month.

Other members and guests added to the discussion, after which Ted Naidoo shared emergency health tips with the club members.
Mrs Peerbhay would like to request a donation of blood glucose test strips, as this will enable regular testing at weekly meetings.
