An intelligence-driven operation during the course of last night (December 4) netted two suspects and three illegal firearms.
Officers from the Ladysmith Crime Intelligence Gathering (CIG) Unit, Pietermaritzburg Tactical Response Team (TRT) and Newcastle Public Order Policing (POP) spent the better part of the evening searching for the suspects and firearms.
The officers were successful in their efforts when they arrested two suspects aged 30 and 35 in the Bergville area. Both were found in possession of unlicensed 9mm pistols.
Three magazines and nine rounds of ammunition were also recovered.
The men are due to appear in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court today.
