On November 17, Dundee lost a beloved ‘golden oldie’, Iris Lundin. Iris was born Iris Lily Arnold, in Browning Street, Dundee on July 18, 1927. She spent her childhood in Talana and walked or cycled the dusty roads to the Holy Rosary Convent. It was while working at the Post Office that she met her husband, Corrie Lundin.
They married in 1948 and had five children: Gail, Irene, Sheryl, Pamela and David. Corrie passed away in 1968, and Iris went back to work at the Post Office on the old manual telephone system, fondly remembered as ‘nommer asseblief’.
Iris was well known for her altruistic nature going out of her way to help people and animals in need. She joined the APC (Association for the Physically Challenged) in the early 70’s and served on the committee until two years ago. Iris was a dedicated Anglican and was the organist at the Anglican Church for 55 years, a position she cherished.
She also served on the Anglican Women’s Guild and was a Mothwa. Iris Lundin was the proverbial pillar of society and Dundee is a richer place for having known her.
