Update: Over 250,000 homes without water

It is not known at this stage when the maintenance will be completed; engineers are still busy

The emergency maintenance work at the Ezakheni Water Treatment Plant in Embizeni has left over 250,000 households without water.

Residents of Ezakheni, Acaciavale and Aloe Park have been without water since Friday (November 11).

Residents are furious, saying that no tankers have been seen in their areas to distribute water. According to uThukela communications officer Jabulani Mkhonza, tankers have been sent out, but not everyone has received water thus far. Certain areas have received water from the tankers.

At this stage, it is not known when the maintenance work will be completed; engineers are still busy.

In the meantime, residents can collect water at the Acaciavale Jamaat Khana and the mosque in Poona Road. Residents are urged to bring their own containers.

Young and old have been spotted since 6am collecting water from the mosque.

uThukela again apologises for the inconvenience caused while the maintenance is being carried out at the Ezakheni Bulk Water Works.

Updates to this story will follow.
