Residents of KwaSithole, Stratford farm, received a healthy boost thanks to a community outreach programme hosted by the Health Department and other Government Departments.
The aim of the outreach, dubbed Operation Mbu, was to address social issues affecting women, especially in rural areas.
“The aim of this event was to empower women and arm them with options at their disposal when faced with health and social ills, like alcohol and any form of abuse or sexual assault,” said Sbonelo Dube, Hospital spokesman.
Speakers from other departments included representatives from the KZN Liquor Authority, Community Safety and Liaison, Department of Social Development, SAPS, Umzinyathi District Municipality, Endumeni Municipality, Stats SA, Centre for Justice and Development. There was a positive response to the healthcare services provided on the day that included dental and eye care, cataract identification, refractive errors, screenings for hypertension, diabetes mellitus, tuberculosis, mental health disorders (like depression and anxiety), substance abuse and HIV counselling and testing.
