ANC victorious in Ward 20 by-elections

The ruling party re-claimed Ward 20

Amid allegations of “ANC corruption” in the by-elections that took place yesterday (November 9) in Ward 20, the ANC emerged victorious.

EFF, IFP and DA followers united against the ANC yesterday at the KwaMthandi polling station, accusing the ANC of transporting people from Bergville to come and vote for them. An EFF follower stated that they saw people who live in Bergville and not registered in Ward 20 voting in the elections.

However, the ruling party remained victorious and re-claimed Ward 20.

The results have been issued and they are as follows: ANC at 51.1% with a total of 1470 votes counted; DA at 36.1% with a total count of 1037 votes; and EFF 2.4% with 69 votes counted.

ANC supporters were seen celebrating way before the results were issued, as they predicted in confidence that they would win.

“We knew we were going to win, we always do, which is why we are the leading party and forever will be,” shouted a proud ANC supporter.

With the by-election now over, Thabisile Njoko will take over as the new councillor of Ward 20, replacing the late Khanyisile Ngobese-Sibisi who was shot and killed in the Acaciavale area on Mandela Day by unknown gunmen.
