Political parties unite against ANC in by-election

The IFP, DA and EFF believe the ANC brought people from Bergville to cast their votes without being registered

The IFP, DA and EFF joined forces against what they believe to be ANC corruption in the by-election that is being held today in Ward 20 (KwaMthandi and Acaciavale).

Polling stations were set up at the Acaciavale Clinic, Acaciavale Primary School and KwaMthandi next to the hall.

A dispute arose among the various political parties at the KwaMthandi polling station when the IFP, DA and EFF accused the ANC of corruption in these elections.

They believe the ANC brought people from Bergville to cast their votes without being registered. “We are fed up with the ANC and its corruption. They have brought people who do not even live here to come and vote for them. These people aren’t even registered and we will not allow them into the voting stations,” said one EFF follower.

KwaMthandi is the only place that had “issues”, with the voting stations at Acaciavale Primary School and the Acaciavale Clinic remaining calm.

The by-election is being held to fill the vacant seat left after the brutal killing of ANC candidate Khanyisile Ngobese-Sibisi, who was ambushed by gunmen on Mandela Day (July 18).

People showed up in numbers to cast their votes and choose the next councillor of Ward 20.
