Concert in the park

The event was a huge success and was graced by the presence of guest speaker Mrs Elaine Smuts, a cancer survivor who imparted words of encouragement with regards to cancer and fighting it

As part of promoting and developing local artists within the arena of Arts & Culture in Emnambithi/Ladysmith, Alfred Duma Local Municipality hosts monthly ‘Concert in the Park’ programmes in which local artists are given a platform to showcase their talent and promote themselves.

On October 28, the Department of Museums, Tourism, Arts & Culture hosted their Concert in the Park, with the special theme of cancer awareness in support of people fighting the disease; also to encourage the community to visit local clinics and get tested.

The event was held in partnership with the Employee Assistant Programme Office, Walton’s Clinic and Nokwim Media who provided the sound system and photography.

The event was a huge success and was graced by the presence of guest speaker Mrs Elaine Smuts, a cancer survivor who imparted words of encouragement with regards to cancer and fighting it.

The cancer awareness address was delivered by Sister Happiness Mthethwa from Walton’s Clinic, who spoke to the community on the importance of visiting local clinics for check-ups and tests.

Local artists who performed in support of the cancer awareness programme were Ziphora ‘Ndie’ Ndlovu (gospel), Lindani ‘Junior’ (gospel), Krazy (hip-hop) and Fezela (African music).

A token of acknowledgement was handed over to Mrs Elaine ‘Ouma’ Smuts as a local cancer survivor.

There was also a message board on which the community could show their support by writing words of encouragement to people living with cancer.
