Stinky car wash water pools outside business
The dirty water attracts insects such as mosquitoes into her shop, which is also bad for business
After numerous unheeded complaints to uThukela about water from a car wash business ending up right in front of her shop in Kandahar Avenue, Mrs L Bhoobun went to the Ladysmith Gazette with her story.
Mrs Bhoobun says she has complained numerous times to uThukela District Municipality about the water, but the problematic situation continues.
“The water runs down from the car wash and stops right in front of my shop, which is not good for business as customers have to jump over the water to get into my shop,” fumes Mrs Bhoobun.
She adds that the dirty water attracts insects such as mosquitoes, which is also bad for business.
“The water comes from a blocked drain at the car wash, which results in a stinking smell and a disgusting sight. The water has been here for weeks and nobody seems interested in doing anything about it, including the car wash owner,” she laments.
Mrs Bhoobun claims uThukela addressed the issue at one stage, but the problem arose again when the municipality installed pipes that face in her shop’s direction, which led to the water stopping right outside.
