Criminals target paramedics

Thieves steal bags from ambulance while life-savers quickly get something to eat

Two local paramedics had their bags stolen at a Ladysmith shopping centre on Sunday afternoon (November 6).

According to the medics, they had stopped to buy lunch before continuing with their life-saving duties. Their bags were in the ambulance, which they claim was locked.

Returning to the ambulance about 10 minutes later, alarm bells went off when they noticed that the front door was slightly ajar. They carried out a thorough search of the vehicle and found that both their personal bags were missing.

Their wallets, driver’s licences, ID documents, cash and other items were in the bags.

They immediately contacted the police.

“Our aim is to save people’s lives every day and I am very disheartened at being robbed like this. Now it seems like our lives, as paramedics, are also at risk,” they say.

The paramedics appeal to the community to be on the lookout for the bags and other personal belongings that were stolen. The bags are described as a black and red Reebok backpack and a brown, black and white sling bag. Contact the Ladysmith Gazette on 0366376801 if you can shed any light on this incident or if you have recovered any of the items.
