75-year-old pensioner raped by intruder

Police dog Ceazer entered the house where the man was hiding and quickly sniffed him out

Community members were shocked when they heard that a 75-year-old woman had been raped by a 29-year-old man.

The intruder allegedly entered the woman’s home at about 11pm last night (November 6).

Her neighbours called the IFP secretary and the police when they realised something was wrong.

It is believed that the man gained access to the house by breaking a window. He then assaulted the elderly woman with a steel rod before raping her.

The elderly rape victim says this is not the first time the man has raped her and that she did not open a case the first time, but rather told her family and neighbours about it.

The 75-year-old now lives in fear and IFP councillor Abbas Warasally had to take her to a relative’s home, as she feels unsafe in her own home.

“We are very upset and disgusted that a young man like this could do such a thing to an elderly lady and we demand that justice be served and that he not get bail,” say IFP members.

Commenting on the matter, police say they received a distress call stating that a housebreaking was in progress in the Acaciavale area. On arriving at the scene, Ladysmith Visible Policing officers and Ladysmith K9 officers found that a 29-year-old man had broken into a residence and had raped an elderly resident.

The suspect was still there and hiding inside the house when police arrived.

Police dog Ceazer quickly sniffed him out.

He was arrested and will be appearing in court tomorrow.
