Storm-damaged electricity pole poses danger to community

The pole is leaning dangerously to the side, "bending" over houses in the street

A streetlight pole that was practically uprooted in the heavy storm on Saturday morning (October 29) raises major safety concerns for the Meena Place community.

The pole is leaning dangerously to the side, “bending” over houses in the street.

“This pole is going to cause a serious problem if it is not dealt with immediately. It is bending lower and lower, and someone could be injured as there are live electrical wires sticking out of it,” said a concerned resident.

Meena Place is busy, with children playing in the area all the time. Residents fear that the pole will come crashing down on top of someone or a child may be electrocuted.

Residents of Meena Place say that the municipality have taken a look at the pole, but no workers have since returned to fix it. “How do the municipality expect us to be loyal to them when they don’t take the community seriously?” fumed another resident who fears the worst when it comes to the dangerously-dipping streetlight pole.
