Beware of carjacking scam

Carefully scrutinize every delivery job before agreeing to do it

Ezakheni police are investigating a carjacking case in which the vehicle’s owner was lured in by a delivery scam.

On Wednesday (October 19), a 33-year-old man who works as a delivery driver was approached in the Ladysmith CBD by two men who claimed they needed his services in order to load goods and have them delivered to their home.

The goods were loaded and the two suspects accompanied the driver and his crew to Ezakheni. In the Mzinyonke area, the two asked the driver to stop so they could load up two goats.

When the vehicle stopped, the suspects got out and one spoke on his cell-phone.

The suspects suddenly pulled out firearms and robbed the driver of his vehicle.

Police are appealing to members of the public offering such delivery services to be aware of this scam and to carefully scrutinize every delivery job before they agree to do it.
