Nquthu ‘sex teacher’ has other cases against him, bail hearing hears

He is facing charges of sexual assault and sexual grooming.

Thabani Hadebe, the Nquthu schoolteacher accused of having sex with his pupils, has several other outstanding cases against him including attempted murder and being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
This was heard at his bail application in the Nquthu Magistrate’s Court where prosecutor Dookhi delivered evidence on behalf of the State’s opposition to him being granted bail.
Earlier, Mr Hadebe’s lawyer, Wesley John, told the Courier that ‘they had proved that one of the girls who claimed Mr Hadebe had had sex with her, had lied’.
“He did not harm the girls and he handed himself over to police. There is no proof that Mr Hadebe in any manner threatened the girls. The school (Ekucabangeni School) should have taken steps to assist these girls if they reported that they had been abused. This never happened.”
The State believes Mr Hadebe lied and used his position of trust to target the young girls. The Prosecutor described him as arrogant and there is no proof that he has changed his ways and should not be granted bail.
The bail application will continue on October 21. He is facing charges of sexual assault and sexual grooming.
