WITH the drought persisting and suitable fishing water becoming scarce, the Vryheid Luremasters decided to fish their first October League at Heyshope Dam.

Although it is a distance to travel, this league was well supported by members. The Saturday morning start was cold and windy. While it warmed up later in the day, the wind persisted. Despite the unfavourable weather conditions, anglers were undeterred and most were rewarded with some excellent catches. A large number of bass in the 0.80kg to 1.5kg range were caught. A number of anglers also caught their personal best. All fish caught were released alive.

As there was no winner at the previous league the prize money was carried over to this league and therefore the winners received a double payout. The winner was Clinton Compton with a bass of 3.56kg. Second place and the first 3kg bass of the season was taken by Christo van Rheede van Oudtshoorn, with a bass of 3.51kg. In third place was Theo Jorrie Jordaan with a bass of 3.05kg. The first junior was Tyler Compton with a bass of 2.26kg. On Saturday evening, after the weigh in, Ajay made his delicious Mohanram Curry and a festive time was had by all.

The second October League will be held on October 22 at Bivane Dam. All members are encouraged to attend.

We catch and release. A fish successfully released is your gift to a fellow angler who might have the pleasure of catching it in the future.
