3 years’ jail time for stealing sister’s mobile phones

Her brother was arrested after stealing her cell-phones and pawning them

A 36-year-old man will be spending the next three years behind bars for stealing his sister’s cellular phones.

During August this year, a woman from Ezakheni was at home doing her normal household chores while her two phones were charging in the lounge. Her brother arrived home and spent some time watching television in the lounge. He later left.

When the sister went to retrieve her phones, she noticed that they were no longer where she had left them. She was furious and called the police for help.

A case docket was opened and Constable Simelane of Ezakheni Detective Services began an investigation.

The detective quickly tracked down the suspect and arrested him. Further investigation revealed that the cell-phones had been pawned at a local ‘loan shark’ business.

A visit to the ‘loan shark’ resulted in the recovery of both phones. The phones, valued at just over R1000, are back in the hands of the lawful owner.

The brother was found guilty in court. In addition to spending the next three years behind bars, he was also found unfit to ever possess a firearm in his lifetime.
