Update: ‘Pokémon Go’ is finally here, but are players happy?

There are no new gyms or Pokéstops in town

When Pokémon Go was initially released, South Africa was left behind.

Due to this, everyone found other ways of playing the game, be it changing their Apple ID’s location to the US or downloading the APK.

Pokémon Go became the new thing in Ladysmith, with lure parties almost every Sunday. The players really put a lot of time into the game and “levelled up” as fast as humanly possible.

Months of waiting passed, with people asking questions such as: “Is Pokémon Go ever coming to South Africa?”; “Will there be more gyms and Pokéstops?”; and “Will the users who ‘hacked’ the game’s accounts be reset?”

So when the game was officially released in South Africa, not everyone knew what to expect and the answers are: There are no new gyms or Pokéstops in town; and if you were on level 20, you keep your data, as it is linked to your gmail, if you weren’t banned.

The following video explains and talks about the official release in South Africa.
