On September 19, local lawyer, Shahid Hoffese of Shahid Hoffese Attorneys, took some time off from his busy schedule to educate and make all the learners at Glencoe Primary School aware of their rights as children. He informed them to be on their guard when faced in a situation of being abused or raped.
The talk was interactive with Mr Hoffese questioning the learners as to what rights they believe they have.
The learners where eager to give their input and ideas on the subject which resulted in a fruitful discussion.
Mr Hoffese told the learners that they can seek help from different role players in the community should they be placed in a situation which affects their rights. N Kajee, school principal, together with his staff members, thanked Mr Hoffese for taking the time to speak to the learners as there is an increase in child abuse and rape in the area.
Mr Hoffese added that he was glad to create such awareness to the students as a former learner of Glencoe Primary School in 1998. He said “it is imperative that at this foundation phase every learner should be aware of their rights as they progress further on in life”.
