Messy trading in lower Harding Street

Despite calling on the local municipality to clean up the area, no positive response has been seen

Living alongside a water leak for more than 24-hours does become quite frustrating. Now imagine, cohabiting with a water leak for more than a year?

This is what some business owners in lower Harding Street have had to deal with. The leak has been reported several times by nearby business owners to Uthukela District Municipality and they were informed that the building owner is responsible for the repair.

According to one of the businessmen, it was reported to the owner who has not responded. The vast amount of water that is being wasted on a daily basis is a concern for the business owners. Another daily occurrence, they say, is rubbish strewn all over the pavements.

“This has been happening for over a year. I have never seen this area clean,” commented a businessman.

Despite calling on the local municipality to clean up the area, no positive response has been seen.

“We are trying to do our small bit by reporting the thing we see and hope that it will be attended to. By keeping quiet, who takes ownership of our town?” commented a resident.
