The Dundee Bowling Club is striding out into the future with confidence following Friday’s historic annual general meeting decision to change the name of the club to the Dundee Sports Club.

One of the oldest clubs in the area, the Dundee Bowling Club believes the decision is a paradigm shift and will bring in people from other communities from all age groups who are looking to get involved in various sports and enjoy good fellowship.

Sylvia Malan heads a committee of younger people who are keen to take the club into the future.
One of the decisions includes converting one of the bowling greens to be used for mini hockey, ‘indoor’ hockey or even handball that attracted so much interest during the Rio Olympics.
The green can be easily tendered to again to be used for the annual Friedman Bowling Cup which is the club’s biggest tournament.

Other sports – already being played – include pool and darts. The biggest drive is to attract young people and with the support of the local and district municipalities, it is hoped that the Sports Club will become a safe hub for the youth.

Dundee already has two scholar bowls coaches in Hannelie Arndt and Dougie Slabbert, who are accredited with the KZN Country Bowls Association.
“All scholars can join for free which has been a decision made by Bowls South Africa.
“There is currently a big drive to attract young people to the sport and we believe Dundee can be at the forefront,” Sylvia concluded.
