Residents, fed-up with an apparent lack of response from the municipality, took to social media last week in a bid for answers.

The Newcastle Advertiser also looked into the matter.

Sure enough, two taps inside the ablution facilities at the Arbor Park grounds were found spouting water, one with the handle missing, the other buried under two bricks.

This was reportedly done to reduce the water flow.

Director for Parks, Recreation and Cemeteries, Vish Govender responded this week, saying the department was aware of the problem, and it was being attended to.

“A request to appoint a service provider has been forwarded to the Supply Chain Management department, and we are currently awaiting quotations.”

There was no response to additional questions relating to future plans for the ablution facilities, and what steps residents could take to report similar problems.
