Al-Imdaad’s Operation Winter Warmth 2016 concludes

This year the campaign led to distributions in seven of the country's nine provinces

It’s been a long, cold winter for South Africans, most of whom will be looking forward to the coming spring and the hope of rains and warmer temperatures. For the poorest communities, winter is often a season of greater difficulty, as they battle ill health, rising costs of living and unemployment. Sometimes a little warmth is all it takes to help prevent susceptibility to colds and ‘flu but even this is beyond many families.

It is for this reason that the Al-Imdaad Foundation, for the 13th year running, has continued its annual Operation Winter Warmth blanket distribution campaign across the country, targeting needy communities wherever they may be. This year the campaign led to distributions in seven of the country’s nine provinces including extensive distributions by Al-Imdaad Foundation’s newest provincial office in Cape Town. The campaign has shown that partnership is essential in bringing humanitarian interventions to those who really need them.
This year we have worked with numerous bodies, forums, non-governmental organisations and private donor groups to implement a truly meaningful campaign.

The Al-Imdaad Foundation would like to thank and acknowledge the following groups for their support during our campaign: The University of the Free State Muslim Students’ Association (UFS-MSA), the WISSH women’s society in Mpumalanga, SANCO in Gauteng, Operation Sukuma Sakhe, the Department of Health and Air Mercy Services in KwaZulu-Natal, the Department of Education in the Eastern Cape, the Muslim Judicial Council in the Western Cape and all the other groups and individuals who spent their time and resources to ensure that this year’s campaign was a success.

We would also like to thank all our donors, whose contributions were essential to the success of this and all our other activities. We look forward to expanding our programme in the coming years and hope to do so with your continued support. Despite the changing seasons, our work continues both locally and abroad. We continue drought relief, poverty eradication and response to crises and emergency as and when they occur.
