The fibre optic cable was used for communicating between the Townlands Substation,New Central A Substation and Glen Substations.

It was hoped the repair work would be completed by 10am this morning, and residents have questioned why the power was still off.

An official source claimed the power has been restarted and residents can expect their electricity to return shortly.

“Due to the large area that was affected, it will take some time for everyone’s power to return,” he said.
