Patient care paramount at Dannhauser CHC

Management hopes that more people make use of the services right on their doorstep.

Building a good relationship with their patients and providing quality service to the community at large is the aim of the Dannhauser Community Health Centre (CHC).

Staff at the CHC are committed to putting patients first and have even gone above and beyond the call of duty to help those who need it. Since opening almost a year ago, the CHC has already seen a steady increase of patients each month. However, there are still many who have yet to make use of the
centres facilities. Midwife, Sister GP Shabangu said that many were under the impression that they needed to be referred to the CHC by other clinics. “You don’t need a referral. You can come straight here for treatment,” she said. PRO, Slindile

These include, but are not limited to, a dental department, physio, x-rays, a maternity ward and a pharmacy. All services offered at the hospital are available 24/7. Instead of providing patients with a return date and time that may not always be suitable for them, they ask patients to specify which date and time would be convenient for them. Appointments are then made for that day. Not only does this cut out queues and waiting times but it has also endeared patients towards the hospital.

Staff have even gone out to some of the more rural areas around town, taking services to the people who can’t get to the CHC. One of these ways is by sending a midwife out to the homes of newborns to see if mother and child are doing ok. Too often mothers aren’t able to get back to the hospitals within seven days of giving birth.

Already the CHC has received numerous compliments from patients ranging from staff friendliness to the general cleanliness of the Centre. Ms Mzila said that they would continue to strive to keep up the standards set so far, adding that they tried to continuously better themselves and learn from the few  complaints they have received. Management hopes that more people make use of the services right on their doorstep.
