50th birthday celebration to help cancer sufferers
Celebrating her 50th birthday, Sangeetha Perumal requested that guests not come with birthday gifts but instead bring money that will go towards Cansa
Local resident Sangeetha Perumal celebrated her 50th birthday at the Crown Hotel yesterday (September 10).
A special evening as a birthday celebration turned into an inspiring event. After losing two of her family members to cancer, Sangeetha approached the local branch of the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) and decided to raise funds to help people of Ladysmith who are suffering from cancer.
Celebrating her 50th birthday, Sangeetha requested that guests not come with birthday gifts but instead bring money that will go towards Cansa.
Everyone was amazed by her generosity and caring character, and applauded her for the special thing she is doing.
An incredible R54,900 was raised.
Mrs Ramkhelwan from Cansa expressed her gratitude towards Sangeetha for coming up with this idea.
The guests were entertained by stand-up comedians who were the MCs of the evening. A dance group from Durban also took the stage, much to everyone’s delight.
