Truck driver charged for defeating the ends of justice

Police would like to warn drivers of commercial vehicles not to get coerced into making deals with criminals

A 41-year-old truck driver was arrested recently after an investigation by police revealed that he had lied about being robbed of the load he was carrying in his truck.

He reported to Ladysmith police that on the morning of August 20, he was robbed by eight men armed with knives after he had stopped his truck along the N3 outside Ladysmith.

However, evidence came to light which indicated that the driver had been involved in the incident. He had in fact sold the load, which consisted of items such as painkillers and powdered milk for babies.

He was arrested on September 1 and made a brief appearance the following day in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court. The accused faces a charge of defeating the ends of justice.

He will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court again on Friday, September 12.

Police would like to warn drivers of commercial vehicles not to get coerced into making deals with criminals. The long arm of the law will take its course, leaving you without an income and behind bars.
