Preparing pupils for a brighter future

AMAJUBA PARK – Majuba TVET College rallied behind the Decade of the Artisan advocacy programme held at Newcastle Training Centre.

The event was well attended and immensely benefited all the 240 Grade 9 school pupils from the 16 local high schools invited

The years 2014-2024 have been declared the Decade of the Artisan by the Honourable Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mduduzi Manana.

August was dedicated to artisan development, officially known as TVET College Month. Majuba TVET College invited high schools, sector education and training (SETA) authorities, to attend programme offerings for artisan training and development, on August 31.

The sessions exposed pupils to interesting activities which took place in the college’s workshops, and allowed them to gather more information about the artisan industry.

During the course of the event, pupils’ knowledge about trades were tested and they received gifts in return. Pupils also went on a guided tour through the college’s workshops, and experienced first-hand what it was like to be an artisan.

Majuba TVET College Rector, Sanele Mlotshwa informed the pupils about available funding from SETAs for internships, learnerships and skills programmes, and how it would enable them to make informed decisions about career choices.

Artisan development is a top priority for Government, as there is a desperate need in the country for skilled artisans. This significant campaign aims to encourage more young people, especially high school pupils and unemployed youth, to follow a career as an artisan.
