Metzelfontein issues resolved – No more pupil protests expected

The matter arose after the children had been without a Maths and IsiZulu teacher since the term started.

MATTERS seem to have come to a state of calm at Metzelfontein Combined School. This after the pupils at the school locked teachers outside in protest last week.

The matter arose after the children had been without a Maths and IsiZulu teacher since the term started.

Members of the school governing body said that the matter had become very frustrating for the children who had to sit and do nothing during their IsiZulu and Maths periods.

According to the Department of Education’s Mr Willem du Plooy, the school currently has a low number of pupils and thus had a low amount of educators allocated to them.

“According to an agreement with the SGB, staff members were to be reshuffled for the IsiZulu teacher post,” said Mr du Plooy.

Mr du Plooy also went on to say that he was still awaiting documents from the principal to allocate a substitute Maths teacher.

In conclusion, Mr du Plooy said that all matters regarding the issues of the teachers at the school were still under discussion and went on to say that the department was doing all it could to ensure that schooling continues well at the school.

The principal of the school was contacted but she refused to give any comment regarding the situation at her.
