Khabonina gives bags of hope for Women’s Month

Generosity consists not the sum given, but the manner in which it is bestowed

A simple thing like a handbag has spread so many smiles around the area.

Khabonina Social Club started their Bags of Hope drive earlier this year eager to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate during Women’s Month.

The project encouraged ladies to donate a secondhand or new handbag filled with basic necessities.

Bags could be filled with basics such as a body wash, face towel, toothbrush, hair brush, tissues, sanitary towels and non-perishable snacks, basically anything normally found in a ladies handbag.

Thanks to kind hearted members of the community, Khabonina collected 40 handbags which they then handed out to the less fortunate.

Bags were donated to the Crisis Centre as well as to ladies in Glencoe, Wasbank and Dundee. 10 handbags were also presented to Dannhauser Helping Hand, who promised to then make up more handbags of hope and hand them out to underprivileged ladies in the area.

Khabonina’s Shalini Jogi also hosted a special tea party in Wasbank where she handed over handbags. The ladies were treated to good food and a free neck and shoulder massage thanks to Lihle from LN Connoisseurs.

“We didn’t do it for fame, but to make a difference, said Shalini. To quote Gandhi, ‘generosity consists not the sum given, but the manner in which it is bestowed’, she added.

A huge thanks goes out to the ladies of Khabonina Social Club and their families, Bev of RA Burns, Keshika Uchee, Shereen Maghoo, Nirasha Raghu and family as well as Leela Jogi from Vryheid.
