Arrests for possession of dagga and stolen property

Police weed out criminals over the weekend

Two men, aged 21 and 25, appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court yesterday (September 5) for possession of dagga.

They were arrested in the Dukuza area of Upper Tugela during a stop and search operation held on Friday.

The suspects were found in possession of 12.6kg of loose dagga which has an estimated street value of about R19,000.

Four other suspects, aged between 41 and 44, have also appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court. The four were arrested in similar incidents in the Kwa Dlamini and Dutch areas of Ntabamhlope, as well as the Emnyangeni and Emakekeni areas of Amangwe (Loskop).

One of the four was found in possession of over 14kg of dagga, while the others were found with smaller amounts of dagga, the smallest of which is two grams.

The street value of the recovered dagga is estimated at about R22,500.

Closer to home, Ezakheni and Ekuvukeni police arrested four men and a woman for being in possession of suspected stolen property. All the suspects were found to be in possession of stolen property or were found to have been associated with the theft of property which took place last month.

Information from the public resulted in the arrest of the suspects.

Ekuvukeni police also arrested two men, aged 30 and 35, for being in possession of suspected stolen property. The incident took place on Sunday morning when a man left his vehicle idling and went inside a house. While in the house, he heard his vehicle driving off. He rushed outside to find two men driving away in his vehicle.

A case was opened at Ekuvukeni SAPS and the two men were later arrested after crashing the vehicle.
