IDENTICAL twins Lizwe and Sizwe Khumbuza are very well known by many locals as they form part of the local clothing brand Spadille, but no one can deny the shock that hit the town when they made it onto the smallscreens in a recent Vodacom advert.

Social media was abuzz and many could not wait to let “our boys” know just how proud Vryheid was of them.

Born and raised in Vryheid, these 25-year-olds say that this burst into the entertainment industry has been a long time coming, as they have always wanted to be actors.

“We wanted this more than anything. Actually, we wanted to be male models because growing up we always went for goals and dreams that would really excite and challenge us to work hard and keep getting better at our craft. Acting is and always was one of the goals that we set for ourselves to achieve,” said Lizwe.

Having not spent longer than two months apart, it seems that the two work better as a team and the Vodacom advert casting crew seems to agree.

“A friend told us about the opportunity, we auditioned the client told us they loved us and we got the job, it was really that simple,” said the pair.

This project though was not their debut on television as the two were already making waves on Mzansi Magic’s Greed and Desire, having made a few appearances.

“There are definitely a few projects we are currently busy with but unfortunately that we can’t mention at the moment. One thing we can say is keep your eyes glued on channel 161 DSTV Mzansi Magic at 7:30 pm, you guys are still going to see more of the double trouble in action,” said Sizwe.

Recalling one of the funniest moments they have ever had together Lizwe said that it had to involve a female.

“We have had quite a few of those over the years but one that is still a highlight for me is when we were in high school and my brothers girlfriend accidentally kissed me. I came up to her to greet her and she just kissed me, she didn’t know that we were twins. Needless to say, my brother was not happy that I had kissed her before he could,” Lizwe recalled humorously.

Their mother, Mrs Ntomba Khumbuza agreed that the two are inseparable and said that she had a few memories from their childhood as proof.

“I remember that when they were doing Grade 3 I had to take one of them to live with my sister for a while. That did not work out at all, they just weren’t themselves and both begged me to bring the other over until I gave in,” she said with a laugh.

Describing the twins as having always been hyperactive and outspoken, the proud mother said that she has always believed in their dreams as they have always shared all that they wished to achieve with her.

“Lizwe and Sizwe share almost everything, especially where their goals are concerned. I remember this one year one of them was in Johannesburg while the other was here in Vryheid. The one that was in Vryheid got stung by a bee whilst walking in town with friends and at around the same time, the twin that was in Johannesburg called one of the friends here in Vryheid complaining that he was having a hard time breathing and he didn’t know why. Which was a strange thing because his brother here was suffering an allergic reaction and couldn’t breathe,” she said.

Their mother said that she really didn’t believe them when they initially told her about the Vodacom advert they had been chosen to do.

“I really don’t know why but to me it just sounded so surreal and I only believed it when their sister called me a few months later and told me to keep an eye out for the advert,” their mother concluded.

The twins said that they have received amazing support from locals and they are highly grateful.

“To everyone in “vula vala ” as we call it, we would like to voice our gratitude for all the love and support. With their support we continue to be inspired to work harder and keep growing. More importantly we would like to say that what we do is not only for ourselves but also to show that anyone else that also comes from a small town like Vryhied young or old can make their dreams a reality.
