IN AN attempt to help children in rural schools understand road safety rules better, the Department of Transport held a Road Safety Education and Awareness Campaign.

The event was held from the 15th to the 19th of August at schools such as Goqo, Velakahle, Khethelihle, Inhlaka, Emadresini, Khawuleza, Nqubeko, Mvunyane Primary, Nkongolwane, Hlobane Primary and Isitimela Creche in Bhekuzulu, which are in the rural parts of AbaQulusi.

The department made use of a mobile junior traffic circle to show the children at these rural schools the basic rules of the road such as where to cross and what all the road signs mean.

According to Mrs Thokozile Nxumalo of the Department of Transport, all the schools for showed great enthusiasm and worked well with them.

“The children were very sharp and answered most questions so well, they also loved seeing Robbie the Robot, our mascot,” she said.

The Department would also like to thank Mr Shamase and Mr T Mthembu from AbaQulusi Public Safety for helping them throughout the program.
