Update: Security guard remains in custody for Madras Road shooting

Making a brief appearance before the magistrate in A-court, the guard applied for Legal Aid

The security guard charged for the murder of Shivan “Baboo” Singh appeared today (Tuesday) in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court.

Making a brief appearance before the magistrate in A-court, the guard applied for Legal Aid. The case was remanded to August 18 (Thursday) for legal representation.

The security guard, who worked at Dave’s Panelbeaters, was allegedly on duty when the shooting occurred in Madras Road.

At this stage, the motive for the killing is unclear. However, it is believed that video footage shows the shooting.

Police arrested the guard on Sunday morning in connection with the fatal attack. Later that day, officers recovered a firearm and the deceased’s cell-phone from the scene.

It is alleged that the firearm is the murder weapon.
