The owners were contacted and were surprised to hear that their premises had been broken into

The Ladysmith Tactical Response Team (TRT) nabbed a 30-year-old man with suspected stolen property yesterday (Monday) morning before the owners of the property even knew it had been stolen.

The man was found in possession of a suitcase that was laden with items that included perfume, a tablet, extension cords and other property. Further investigation revealed that he was also in possession of two flat-screen televisions and a bicycle. The property had been hidden at a secluded location.

It was established that he had already sold jewellery at a local shop.

Police arrested another man, aged 37, for being in possession of said jewellery.

It was later established that a premises in Ladhoo Road had been broken into during the course of the morning. The owners of the premises were contacted and were surprised to hear of the incident.

The owners have since identified the property, valued at about R70,000, as being theirs.

Both suspects are due to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today (Tuesday).
