It is cast off time for the professional angling league

With five clubs within the fold, the APL is set for a season full of action and intense rivalry amongst the clubs.

It all systems go as the Angling Professional League gets set for another action packed season. After a short lay-off during the winter months, the angling scene comes alive with the hosting of League one at Sandford on August 21. The APL has been boosted with the affiliation of the Dannhauser Angling Club and Ladysmith Angling Club. The former club had for many seasons been affiliated to the Natal Fresh Water Angling Association (NFWAA) however this season has decided to throw its lot with the APL. Ladysmith Angling Club with a number of seasoned anglers from Breakwaters, Stillwaters and Challengers are set on making their presence felt. Their insatiable appetite for victory makes them as formidable force in the APL. With five clubs within their fold, the APL is set for a season full of action and intense rivalry amongst the clubs.
The angler of the day will don the orange cap, win R200 and an outright trophy while the overall leader will wear the purple cap. The winning club for the day would win R500 while there are incentives in various categories which makes winning rather lucrative.
The top three anglers of the season will season, tackle vouchers worth R3 000, R2 000 and R1 000 respectively. Other titles in contention includes, heaviest scaled fish, heaviest non scaled fish, rare specie; junior angler (under 16 years), lady angler, senior angler (above 60 years of age) and angler of the year. R500 bonus prize for anglers catching a carp over 4kg and Barbel over 10kg.
Breakwaters and Stillwaters started their season with the hosting of their Champion of Champion, Round one, at Richgate Park on August 7. The top five anglers were Jannie Els (8 pts); Wayne Oosthuizen (8 pts); Anil Boodhoo (5 pts) Ruan Nysschen (4 pts) and Whity Maharaj (4 pts).
