Designer hones her creativity

Most of her garments are hand-crafted and she hardly uses a machine at all

Local lass Jenine Moses is a determined and motivated young woman who designs garments, doing something out of the ordinary in this town and most importantly doing what she loves.

Born in 1992 in Johannesburg and growing up in Cape Town, Jenine started designing garments four years ago with the help of her sister, whom she says has been her role model and motivation. Most of her garments are hand-crafted and she hardly uses a machine at all.

Jenine only designs for female clients and children. With more skills acquired in the years to come, she hopes that one day she will be able to design men’s clothing as well.

Since we’re experiencing a bitterly-cold winter at the moment, Jenine has been designing warm winter clothes for children and young women. “I have had more clients than usual who approach me and see what they can buy to look good and stay warm at the same time,” she enthuses.

With matric farewells coming up, Jenine is currently working on a dress she believes will turn heads when the owner wears it on her special night.

“I’ve always wanted to be a designer and always wanted to make people look stunningly beautiful. Anyone who wishes to have a dress specially designed for them, come and see me, I will not disappoint!”

Jenine currently works from home and is confident in her ability.

The young designer says that in five years’ time, she sees herself owning her own workshop, with people employed by her, and having her own brand that people will love to wear. “We, as females, like to look unique and different from others. We like to have our own dressing style, which is one of the reasons I took to design because I wanted to have my own look.”

As a single mother who makes a living from her creativity, she urges every young woman out there to chase their dreams so as to take care of their families and provide for their children.

“My sister is my role model and motivation in design, but my child motivates me in everything I do. “This is not just about me fulfilling my dreams, it is also about wanting my child to have a great life ahead,” she concludes.
