Petrol stations not running dry yet in the district

No stations contacted by the Courier indicated that they were short on fuel.

While motorists in other parts of the country are rushing to fill up with fuel as a fuel strike enters its second day. service stations in and around the Dundee district are in no danger of running out of fuel within the next two or three days.

No stations contacted by the Courier  indicated that they were short on fuel.

Louis Steenkamp of TriStar Filling Station said: “I do not think the area will be affected in a major way, but one cannot be 100% sure.”

But this has not stopped local motorists rushing to fill up which in itself may cause a shortage.

The Chemical Energy Paper Printing Wood & Allied Workers Union ( CEPPWAWU) have embarked on a strike that began yesterday (Thursday).

According to the Fuel Retailer Association, the strike will affect refineries, depots and in-sourced truck workers.

The union is reportedly asking for a pay increase of 9% and employers are offering only 7%.
