Hawks arrest man for unlicensed firearms and ammunition

The seized firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used to commit any crime in the country

Pietermaritzburg Hawks and Public Order Policing (POP) officers arrested a 41-year-old man for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Thursday.

As part of an intelligence-driven operation, the officers proceeded to the Cwaka area of Msinga, where a homestead was raided.

Upon searching the house, four unlicensed firearms and 13 live rounds of ammunition were recovered.

The firearms consist of three .38 Specials and one 9mm pistol.

A suspect, 41-year-old Sifiso Mgaga, was placed under arrest and charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The seized firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used to commit any crime in the country.

Mgaga appeared in the Msinga Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where the case was postponed to July 29 for a bail application.
