The dangers of Pokémon Go

Several unauthorised clones of the game are out there, some containing viruses

Pokémon Go is alive and well in Ladysmith, with hundreds of schoolchildren playing the game. This despite the game not even being released in South Africa.

While the obvious danger of your children wandering around Ladysmith in search of Pokémons should be concerning to any parent, there are more hidden dangers.

Because the game has not been released in South Africa yet, several unauthorised clones of the game are out there. These contain viruses, malware and other hidden data-siphoning programmes that can compromise your phone’s integrity.

So it might just be better to wait for the game to be released officially in South Africa.

The release is expected in the next few weeks.
