The ANC candidate shot this afternoon has died. The deceased, an ANC candidate in ward 20, was travelling along the bottom end of Centenary Road near the dump yard when an unknown attacker / attackers opened fire on her with an assault rifle.
She was seriously injured in the shooting. A family member who heard the shots and lives nearby rushed to her aid. It is believed he drove the vehicle she had been using straight to La Verna Hospital.
A heavy police presence can be seen at the hospital.
Senior detectives are piecing together what happened and an arrest is expected shortly. A massive manhunt is underway.
ANC regional spokesperson Sipho Hlomuka was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
