Update: 6 lives lost in crash on R103

There were mass casualties and many of the occupants were critically injured

In the early hours of Saturday morning, emergency personnel rushed out into the cold of the R103 where two fully-loaded taxis had a head-on collision just past Colenso at about 3am.

There were mass casualties and many of the occupants were critically injured. It took officials hours to complete clean-up operations, with ambulances rushing patients to hospital and returning to assist further.

A total of six lives were lost in the accident, with 32 injured. Two people died at the scene.

Sharaj Ambulance Services, EMRS and ER24 all responded and treated the injured.

RTI, police and breakdown services were also on scene.
