Biggarsberg Primary enjoys 23 years of continued growth

"In Unity We Grow" - a fitting motto for Biggarsberg Primary School.

“In Unity We Grow” – a fitting motto for Biggarsberg Primary School, a pioneer of its kind and always at the forefront of innovative thinking for 23 years.
The Glencoe school has 709 learners with an impressive pass rate to boot.
“Past pupils who have achieved come back and let us know,” said principal, Lyn Burger. In sharing the ‘same goals’, Ms Burger has been in leadership for 16 years along with deputy principal, Michelle du Plooy, who always aims to do what’s best for the school.
The enthusiastic and committed staff of 20 pride themselves in always producing the best results, not only academically, but also in a variety of cultural activities the school offers.
“We don’t stagnate – we try to raise the bar every year,” said Ms Burger, “we try and bring in something new.” The school has made a name for itself in sports, art, speech and drama, Zulu dancing and the choir, among other genres and have proved to be a force to be reckoned with.
The school is in the process of building a school hall on their premises with funds raised from their efforts in fundraising.
“The plans have been drawn up and we will start shortly,” she added.
The school has had to hire the town hall for all their functions and award ceremonies. The school also does not own a bus and don’t have a hostel. “Most learners live at the Khanyisa Hostel in Glencoe,” Ms Burger said.
Despite all these setbacks, the school still prides itself on its standards, sporting a beautifully manicured lawn that is both pleasant and clean. “I want them to be happy and it serves to encourage our children to be litter and nature conscious,” she added with a smile. The school was recently sponsored by the National Lottery Council for their Arts and Culture Department which was used to upgrade their wardrobe for African Traditional wear. The school looks forward to much more growth in the future.
