Abandoned survivor searches for new home

An abandoned puppy has lived to fight another day, and is now looking for a loving family.

BARRY HERTZOG – Arriving at work, Newcastle SPCA staff never expected to find a puppy abandoned on their property recently.

Heather Gero of the SPCA explained employees recently found the dog while opening the office.

“We heard a small cry and found the puppy in the corner of the property, near the entrance of the SPCA.”

Allegedly, the puppy had been pushed through the organisation’s enclosure fence and left in the cold night.

“It was about two weeks old, and it’s eyes were not even open yet,” Mrs Gero said.

Staff immediately set to work to help the puppy survive.

“I had to hand-rear the pup with a bottle, hoping it would live,” said SPCA Inspector, Elize van Rooyen.

Now, nearly two months later, the puppy is a bundle of joy and lively excitement. Bouncing around the SPCA office, the puppy has been named ‘Survivor’ as it defeated the odds in its quest to live.

However, Survivor is now looking for a loving home where he can experience the joys of family life.

“He won’t grow much bigger and will surely make a wonderful companion,” said Ms van Rooyen.

If anyone would like to adopt Survivor, they can contact the SPCA on 034 318 2346.
