Ward Four Councillor resigns

He adds that his decision to resign was not an easy one and weighed heavily on his mind

Frustration and in-fighting are some of the root causes that prompted Ugan Chetty to resign from his position as Ward Four Councillor.

Mr Chetty handed in his resignation to Umtshezi Municipality Speaker Cesar Nunes last Monday, June 20.

He said that this decision has been on his mind for a long time.

“It is frustrating trying to work to the best of your ability for the upliftment of the community but some officials are not on the same wave length,” commented Mr Chetty.

He adds that his decision to resign was not an easy one and weighed heavily on his mind.

“I was in politics from my high school days. I became involved in politics to serve the community but it has now become a fight for positions and salaries,” said Mr Chetty.

But this has not deterred his passion for politics and Mr Chetty is joining the National Freedom Party and giving his support to the candidate.

In conclusion he said that he was proud of the achievements he’s made since being elected as Ward Four Councillor in 2014.

He cites the handing over of title deeds to residents in Forderville and Colita, the replacement of asbestos roofing and rehabilitation of roads in the central business district as some of these accomplishments.

In light of Mr Chetty’s resignation, African National Congress Chef Whip Edith Lite informed the Estcourt News that a community meeting will be held on Saturday, July 2 at the Forderville Hall at 2pm.
