Mvunyane ‘flooded’

According to Veli Mbatha, a resident in the area, they have had this issue of water flowing into their homes for the past three years.

WITH local dams and rivers at an all time low it is hard for any Vryheid person not to feel mocked when one mentions the word ‘flooding’ when describing any local area.
This term though seems to not be foreign for the residents at the Esigodini area in Mvunyane (just outside of Emondlo).
According to Veli Mbatha, a resident in the area, they have had this issue of water flowing into their homes for the past three years.
“Although this would be a good thing given the fact that AbaQulusi is currently facing a terrible drought, the water is a great inconvenience as it comes into our yards and sometimes into the houses,” said Mbatha.
The source of the water is unknown, and this is another reason why residents are worried as they fear for their health and for that of their children.
Residents say that councillors were notified about the problem when it started but to no avail.
The Induna of the area, a Mr Buthelezi, was also notified about the matter but could not do much as the matter needs to be taken up by municipal officials.
The Vryheid Herald contacted AbaQulusi Municipality with regards to the matter and was still awaiting response at the time of going to print.
