Husband killer to serve 3 years under house arrest

She will be allowed out to do 16 hours of community service a month and to attend church services on Sundays

A 37-year-old woman who was initially arrested on murder charges has been found guilty of culpable homicide in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court.

Mrs Justine Fourie stood accused of killing her husband, 46-year-old Barend Fourie.

The woman made a confession and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of culpable homicide.

Barend Liebenburg Fourie’s body was discovered in a house in the Danskraal area on March 14. He had been stabbed once in the chest.

However, after an intelligence-driven investigation, officers believed his wife to be the killer. After questioning, she confessed.

Mrs Fourie was sentenced to five years in prison, suspended for five years, and ordered to serve three years’ correctional supervision to be served under full house arrest.

She will be allowed out to do 16 hours of community service a month and to attend church services on Sundays, as well as to travel to and from work each and every day.
