ANC swings into local election mode

"The country faces huge challenges including economic meltdown which is an international trend that started around 2008. Drought is another challenge, but rest assured that communities will not rely on trucks forever. Alternative systems will need to be looked at as soon as water becomes available."

The ANC leadership met at the Westville Campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday to mobilise their election campaign for the August 3 local government elections.
The national leadership was represented by Joe Phahal and the provincial leadership by provincial chairman, Sihle Zikalala and the provincial secretary, Super Zuma. The alliance partners SACP, COSATU and SANCO pledged their loyal support and attention to the ANC campaign for the 2016 elections and committed themselves to ensuring that the ANC will definitely win the majority of wards in KZN.
“All the mobilised forces will be going door-to-door, thereby intensifying the campaign of the ANC,” said Thulani Mahaye, the ANC regional deputy chairperson and spokesperson of Inkosi Bhambatha region. Mr Phahla stressed that the processes of elections ‘are now complete and that it is all systems go.’ He said the ANC was impressed by ‘the presence of the religious leadership and traditional leadership, which is also convinced that the ANC is the only way that the country has to go.’
The national leadership has endorsed the Mayoral candidates for the metros, District Municipalities and strategic Local Municipalities. Mr Zikalala said that ‘the ANC is tried and tested, and has overcome all the tests’ but there is a need to address more issues regarding service delivery. “It is definite that the ANC will continue with the good work it has done,” he claimed.
“The country faces huge challenges including economic meltdown which is an international trend that started around 2008. Drought is another challenge, but rest assured that communities will not rely on trucks forever. Alternative systems will need to be looked at as soon as water becomes available.”
Mr Mahaye said the ANC is ready to win the elections on August 3. “The ANC pledges that all the people of KwaZulu Natal should continue to put their trust by voting for the ANC because it remains the only organisation to move KZN Province forward.”
