10 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs which included ecstasy, heroin and dagga

12 arrests were made over the weekend for various crimes in the province while police were conducting operations, including the monitoring of ‘Pens Down’ parties that signal the start of the school holidays.

From Friday until this morning (Tuesday), police officers from several units conducted various operations in the province to curb the problem of drug abuse among the youth.

10 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs which included ecstasy, heroin and dagga. Two were arrested for possession of property suspected to be stolen.

During these operations, police confiscated dagga, KAT and heroin, as well as a stolen Opel Corsa sedan.

All 12 suspects will appear in different courts in the province today.

No serious incidents were reported in areas that were patrolled and monitored by police during the operations.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa, thanked police as well as other role players who were involved in the ‘Pens Down’ operations over the weekend. “We are very pleased with the results of our operations and most of the problem areas identified during our planning were quiet. Some of the arrested suspects were found in possession of the ‘Mercedes’ drugs, which are commonly used by the youth during these parties,” he said.
