‘Pens Down’ operation nets police arrests

A total of twelve arrests were made over the weekend for various crimes in the province whilst police were conducting various operations including the monitoring of “Pens Down” Parties that signal the start of the school holidays. From Friday, 24 June 2016 until this morning, police officers from several units conducted various operations in the province to curb the problem of drug abuse among the youth. Ten suspects were arrested for possession of drugs which included ecstasy,

From Friday, June 24 until yesterday, police officers from several units conducted various operations in the province to curb the problem of drug abuse among the youth.

Ten suspects were arrested for possession of drugs which included ecstasy, heroine and dagga. Two were arrested for possession of property suspected to be stolen. During these operations, police confiscated dagga, cat, heroine as well as a  stolen Opel Corsa sedan. All twelve suspects will appear at different courts in the province today. During the operations, no serious incidents were reported in areas that were patrolled and monitored by the police.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa thanked police as well as other role players who were involved in the “Pens Down” operations over the weekend. “We are very pleased with the results of our operations and most of the problem areas that were identified during our planning were quiet. Some of the arrested suspects were found in possession of the Mercedes drugs which are commonly used by the youth during these parties,” he said.
